Rick and Tess Chantengco, real estate pioneers looking for a better way of life in America had emigrated from the Philippines as professionals in military and nursing careers, respectively, to later become entrepreneurs and founded Chantengco Realty Inc. in 1971. It began catering to first-time homebuyers breaking the barrier of minority ownership, and later moved into residential development and commercial real estate.
Its first San Diego real estate office was located along the main corridor, Third Avenue in Chula Vista with satellite offices in Paradise Hills and Mira Mesa. Chantengco Realty was one of the initial pioneers in the Electronic Realty Associates (ERA) network and consistently the firm was one of the top franchises in San Diego County until 1993. Its commercial division was involved in sponsoring several real estate partnerships that owns and manages multifamily, mixed-use, retail, and hospitality assets.
In 1994, second generation children, J.R. and Jackie, would both join the family office company and they renamed it The Triwest Group. It's mortgage division originated agency, conventional, and commerical loans. Today, the firm is in the top 20% in seller-represented short sale listings, banked-owned (REO) sales, and resale transactions as rated by Homelight, an independent third-party firm.
